You're on the roof. The phone's in the van.

An AI receptionist that answers in your name while your hands are full, takes the job, the address and how urgent it is, and texts it to you before you're back down the ladder.

£80 to set up, then £80 a month plus 16p a minute of call time.

The calls come when you physically can't answer

You're halfway through a bathroom, gloves on, boards up. The phone goes in the van and by the time you get to it there's a missed call and no voicemail. That was somebody with a burst pipe who needed a plumber in the next hour — and they've already rung the next name on Google.

It's the same for electricians, roofers, joiners, plasterers and landscapers. The work that pays is the work that stops you answering, and the average missed job for a trade in Northern Ireland is worth around £250. Miss four in a month and that's a thousand pounds gone before you've bought a single fitting.

85% of callers who can't get through never call back. They don't leave a message and they don't try again — they just ring somebody else.

What it does for a trade

    Answers in your name

"Good afternoon, McKee Plumbing" — your greeting, your hours, at seven in the morning and at ten at night.

Takes the job, not just the name

What's wrong, the address, when they need somebody and whether it can wait — all in the caller's own words.

Sorts an emergency from a quote

A burst pipe and a "can you price a new bathroom" get treated differently. Emergencies get flagged so the text stands out on your phone.

Asks for photos where it helps

It can ask the caller to text a photo of the leak, the fuse board or the roof straight to your number, so you know what you're driving to.

Texts and emails you every call

A text with the details and an email with the full transcript, seconds after the call ends. Nothing to log into.

Covers evenings, weekends and the whole of a working day

It doesn't take lunch and it doesn't go into a loft. Every call gets answered, first ring.

A burst pipe at half six on a Sunday

SamGood evening, McKee Plumbing — how can I help?

CallerI've water coming through the kitchen ceiling, I think a pipe's went upstairs.

SamRight, that's an emergency — I'll get this to Stephen now. Have you been able to turn the water off at the stopcock?

CallerI've turned it off, aye, but it's still dripping.

SamGood. Can I take your name, your number and the address?

CallerPaul Devlin, 07894 552 310, 22 Hillcrest Avenue in Dromore.

SamThanks Paul. If you can text a photo of the ceiling to that same number it'll help Stephen know what he's bringing. I'm marking this urgent and he'll ring you straight back.

    CallerThat's great, thanks very much.

Try it the way your customers would

We're not going to invent a testimonial from a plumber. We don't have a trade live on it yet — what we do have is a working trades agent you can talk to today, built on the same setup that answers the phone for a motor factors in County Tyrone.

Ring 028 9622 8892 and give it a real one: a burst pipe, a dead socket, a slate off the roof. See whether the text that lands on your phone is the one you'd want.

    What it does not do

    • It does not quote a price you haven't given it. No guessed figures, ever.
    • It does not book into your diary. The job comes to you as a message and you pick the day.
    • It does not dispatch you or ring another tradesman on your behalf.
    • It does not diagnose a fault down the phone. It writes down what the customer says and leaves the judgement to you.
    • It does not transfer a live caller through to your mobile as standard — it takes the details and pings you so you can ring back.

    Questions we get asked

It answers. It asks what has happened, how bad it is and where they are, takes the name and number, and marks the message urgent so it stands out on your phone the second you look at it. If you want the script to tell a caller to turn the water off at the stopcock or pull the main switch before you get there, John puts your own words in — we don't make up advice.

Judge that yourself rather than take our word for it — ring 028 9622 8892 and Sam, our own receptionist, answers. It speaks at a normal pace, it lets you interrupt, and if it mishears something it asks you to say it again instead of guessing. It never pretends to be a person if somebody asks it straight out.

Only what you have told John to say. If you give us a call-out charge or an hourly rate, it quotes that. If you haven't, it says the price depends on the job, takes the details and tells the caller you'll ring back with a figure. It will not invent a number to keep somebody happy.

No. You keep the number on your van and your Facebook page. You divert it — all the time, or only when it rings out, or only outside your hours — and you can switch that diversion on and off from your own phone whenever you like.

A text to your mobile with the name, the number, the address and what's wrong, and an email with the full transcript, both within seconds of the caller hanging up. You don't have to log into anything. If it's an emergency, the text says so at the top.

Yes. Plenty of lads run it that way — divert to it when you're up a ladder or under a floor, take your own calls when you're in the van. The monthly is the same either way; you only pay per minute for the calls it actually handles.

£80 a month plus 16p a minute, so 100 minutes of call time is about £96 a month and 300 minutes about £128 a month, both after the one-off £80 setup. 500 minutes is about £160. There's no VAT on top — we're not VAT-registered.

It can ask the caller to text photos to your number while it has them on the phone, which saves you a second call before you decide whether it's worth driving out. The photos go to you directly; the agent doesn't handle images itself.
