Every unanswered call is a client who rang the firm down the street.
An AI receptionist that answers in your firm's name at lunchtime, after hours and whenever reception is stretched, takes the enquiry properly, and emails and texts it to the person who should see it.
£80 to set up, then £80 a month plus 16p a minute of call time.
New enquiries don't ring during office hours
Somebody has just been told they need a solicitor for a conveyance, or an accountant before the January deadline. They pick up the phone at ten past one, get a ring-out or an answering machine, and by twenty past they're on the phone to the firm on the next street. You'll never know that call happened.
Reception is one person. They're on a call, or at the desk with a client, or at lunch, and the second line rings out. It isn't a failing — it's arithmetic.
The calls that cost most are the first-time enquiries, because they are the only ones that never ring back. Existing clients will try you again tomorrow. A new one won't.
What it does for a professional firm
Answers in the firm’s name
Your greeting and your wording, at one o'clock, at six, and on a Saturday morning.
Takes a new enquiry properly
Name, number, the nature of the matter in the caller's own words, how urgent it is and how they heard of the firm — so the fee-earner rings back already informed.
Takes appointment and callback requests
Including callbacks for a named solicitor, accountant or partner, with the reason attached.
Says what the firm does and doesn’t take on
If you don't do criminal work, or you're not taking new personal tax clients this side of January, John scripts that in and it says so plainly instead of wasting everyone's time.
Covers lunchtime and out of hours
Divert only the hours you're stretched, or the whole day — and change your mind whenever you like.
Sends the details where the firm says
A text and an email with the full transcript, to the general office address or to the named fee-earner, and to no other address.
A new enquiry at ten past one
SamGood afternoon, Harper & Co Solicitors — reception is at lunch just now, but I can take your details. How can I help?
CallerI'm buying a house and I need somebody to do the conveyancing.
SamCertainly. Can I take your name and the best number to ring you back on?
CallerNiamh Bradley, 07811 340 226.
SamThanks Niamh. Have you had an offer accepted yet, and is there a date you're working towards?
CallerOffer's accepted, they're looking to complete by the end of November. What would you charge for that?
SamI'm not able to quote or advise on fees — that'll come from the firm directly. I've noted the purchase, the end-of-November date and your number, and it's going to the conveyancing team now.
CallerThat's fine, thank you.

Judge the tone before you commit
We won't name a firm on this page that isn't a client. We don't have a solicitor or an accountant live on it yet — what we have is a working agent you can ring today, on exactly the same setup that answers the phone for a business in County Tyrone.
Ring 028 9622 8892 and try it as a new enquiry. Ask it for advice on purpose and see it refuse properly — that’s the part that matters for a regulated firm.
What it does not do
- It does not give legal or tax advice of any kind, and it does not comment on the merits of a matter.
- It does not run conflict checks. It takes the details so the firm can.
- It does not transfer a live caller to a fee-earner as standard — it takes the message and pings the person you nominate.
- It does not quote fees. It says the firm will come back with those.
- It does not write into your case-management or practice software. The details arrive as a text and an email.
